Who is Molana Faiz ur Rehman Usmani (R.A)?

Biography:

Name: Faiz ur Rehman.
Father’s Name: Abdul Haleem.
Year of Birth: 1953.
Place of Birth: Tikri, Battagram, Pakistan.

Molana Faiz ur Rehman Usmani (Rahimahullah) was born into a scholarly family. His father, Molana Abdul Haleem, was a respected Islamic scholar. He received his early education in his village and later pursued religious studies under the guidance of his foster uncle, Molana Usman (Rahimahullah). He began his studies in Persian at Masjid Al-Sharqiya (now Masjid Khulafa-e-Rashideen) in Murree.

Education & Graduation:

He furthered his education at Madrasa Anwar-ul-Uloom, Gujranwala, under the tutelage of Molana Hamidullah Jan. Subsequently, he studied at renowned institutions across Pakistan, including Darul Uloom Karachi (Korangi), Jamia Farooqia Karachi, the University of Karachi, and the International Islamic University Islamabad, learning from eminent scholars of the Arab and non-Arab worlds.

Molana graduated from Darul Uloom Karachi on July 7, 1978 (1398 AH) and received the authorization in Hadith from his mentor, Molana Saleemullah Khan. For two years, he served as an imam in a mosque in Karachi while also teaching at a madrasa.

He earned a Bachelor of Oriental Learning from the University of Karachi on November 1, 1981, and completed his Master’s in Arabic and Islamic Studies from the International Islamic University Islamabad on March 4, 1985. He also pursued an LLB (Law) degree from the University of Karachi but did not collect his degree due to financial constraints.

Career and Contributions:

On June 2, 1986, Molana founded the Institute of Islamic Sciences, Islamabad, having relocated to Islamabad in 1981. From 1988 to 1990, he worked with Tanzeem-e-Islami, led by Dr. Israr Ahmad, and engaged in correspondence with Dr. Israr on various matters. Those letters, titled “Khat-o-Kitabt”, were not published during Dr. Israr’s lifetime per his request.

Teachers and Expertise:

Molana’s distinguished teachers included:

  • Molana Saleemullah Khan (Sheikh-ul-Mashaikh)
  • Molana Sahban Mahmood.
  • Hazrat Mufti Muhammad Rafi Usmani Sahib.
  • Dr. Hamidullah Jan.
  • Sheikh-ul-Islam Mufti Muhammad Taqi Usmani.

Among Arab scholars, notable teachers included Abdullah Al-Hakmi and Dr. Fawzi Al-Sayyid Abdul Rab Al-Eid. Molana also studied arts of eloquence and rhetoric in Egypt, emphasizing that true eloquence is transmitted through personality rather than books

Academic Contributions:

Molana authored numerous works, including:

  • “Muzakarat fi Al-Uroodh wa Al-Qawafi” (discussions on metrics and prosody)
  • “Muzakarat fi Al-Nahw” (discussions on Arabic grammar)
  • “Rehnuma-e-Talaba” (A Guidebook for students)
  • Sharh Ul-Aqeedah Al-Tahawiyyah.

He also wrote columns for various newspapers and compiled a collection of speeches titled “Taqareer Faiz ur Rehman Usmani”.

Passing:

Molana Faiz ur Rehman Usmani (R.A) passed away on August 24, 2021 (Tuesday) and returned to his Creator. (Inna lillahi Wa inna ilayhi Raji’un) May Allah grant him mercy and elevate his status in the hereafter. (Ameen)
